Ahmadinejad

September 24, 2007 / by willlangford

I was just curous about how you all felt about Ahmadinejad's presentation at Columbia University.  I was not shocked by the protestors but I was a little shocked by the amount of applause he received throughout his responses.

But what amazed me most was when he said "In Iran we do don't have homosexuals like in your country."  I wonder if that is becaused he had them all stoned?  Just a thought....

He means, they DO have homosexuals, but that they just are not like in our country. [GLARE]

I was a lot more surprised by Bollinger's ripping Ahmadinejad a (well-deserved) new one than I was that there was applause for a nutty opponent of American interests in a university setting. The irony is almost too much to bear: those applauding him loudest were the same crowd most likely to deplore America as homophobic, sexist, and (this administration in particular) theocratic. Politics makes strange bedfellows -- and that will get you stoned in Iran.

The gays in Iran cannot be open about it because they may not live long after "coming out".

I heard just a small part of " jad's" comments at the university. I did, however, hear all of his speech at the U.N. What was amazing is that the things he was saying sounded just like he was an American on the liberal side of the debate. I don't know if he took the liberal slogans or if the liberals took their slogans from him. Very interesting indeed.
